More than 55,000 New York state employees represented by the Civil Service Employees Association could see pay raises, enhanced benefits and increased location pay under a new tentative labor agreement announced Friday.
The five-year contract agreement between the state and CSEA would run through April 1, 2031, if approved by union members. CSEA is one of the state’s largest public employee unions, representing workers across a wide range of state agencies and job classifications.
State officials said the agreement includes annual salary increases throughout the life of the contract, paid prenatal leave, increases in location pay and changes to health insurance coverage intended to reduce out-of-pocket costs for employees. The deal would also eliminate certain co-pays and encourage greater use of in-network providers.
Gov. Kathy Hochul described the agreement as a fair deal for both employees and taxpayers, while CSEA leadership said the contract addresses wage growth and affordability concerns facing workers across the state.
CSEA President Mary Sullivan said the agreement delivers meaningful wage increases and reflects the work union members perform every day in providing public services. The contract covers employees in four bargaining units and must be ratified by rank-and-file union members before taking effect.
