Statue of Liberty stays open during shutdown

Despite the federal government shutdown, the Trump administration says Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty will remain open, according to Spectrum News.

The National Park Service, which manages both sites, began furloughing staff this week—but tours are continuing without disruption.

While most national parks are expected to stay partially accessible, Governor Kathy Hochul warned the shutdown could impact key services like SNAP and WIC. She hasn’t announced plans to fund the landmark’s operation, unlike former Gov. Cuomo during the 2018 shutdown.
