Cornell women’s soccer came up just short in a 2-1 loss to Harvard on Saturday at Berman Field, despite a strong second-half push during Homecoming and Alumnae Weekend.

After a tightly contested first half, the Big Red (3-4-4, 1-2-0 Ivy) fell behind when the Crimson (4-4-2, 2-1-0 Ivy) scored twice in quick succession midway through the second period. Harvard broke through in the 56th minute and doubled its lead less than three minutes later with a strike from distance.

Cornell answered in the 68th minute when senior midfielder Abigail Bishara intercepted a clearance and buried a long-range shot from 35 yards out. The goal, her second of the season, cut the deficit in half and energized the Big Red attack.

Cornell maintained possession for much of the closing stretch, generating three attempts in the final 22 minutes, but could not find the equalizer. Goalkeeper Natalie Medugno made three saves, with her scoreless streak ending after more than 182 minutes of play.

Box Score

The Big Red now turns to a three-match road swing, beginning Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Lafayette, where Cornell will look to extend its perfect all-time record against the Leopards.
