Ideology has replaced sex and violence as the top reason people support banning books, according to Cornell Chronicle.
New research from Cornell shows both liberals and conservatives oppose censorship — unless the content clashes with their beliefs. The study, which surveyed 800+ adults, found the left typically targets books seen as racist or sexist, while the right opposes titles promoting gender diversity or challenging traditional values.
Researchers say the shift marks a dangerous erosion of free speech, especially as both sides push partisan censorship — the right through laws, the left through social media.
