Despite a late-season collapse that knocked the New York Mets out of postseason contention, manager Carlos Mendoza will return in 2025, team president David Stearns confirmed Monday.
“Carlos will be back next year,” Stearns said.
Mendoza, 45, concluded his second year as Mets skipper with an 83-79 record. After leading New York to an 89-73 finish and an NLCS berth in 2024, the club started this season 45-24, the best mark in baseball at the time, but stumbled to a 38-55 record over the final three months, missing the postseason on the last day.
Owner Steve Cohen issued an apology to fans Monday, but the club believes it remains close to contention despite finishing behind Cincinnati for the final wild-card spot.
