All recovery centers across New York State will receive a share of $13 million in new funding, as part of a major Recovery Month investment announced by NYS OASAS.
The funding — awarded through the state’s opioid settlement fund — will support peer-based recovery services and non-clinical supports such as job training, education, and family services. The initiative builds on an effort launched in 2023 and raises each center’s annual budget to $535,000 through 2028.
Honoring Recovery Month and expanding support
The announcement comes as Governor Kathy Hochul formally recognized September as Recovery Month in New York. To mark the occasion, major landmarks across the state — including Niagara Falls, the Empire State Plaza, and the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge — will be lit in purple on September 30.
“This funding further supports an ongoing initiative… and gives people more opportunities to access this vital help and support,” said OASAS Commissioner Dr. Chinazo Cunningham.
Since the initiative began, more than $31 million has gone directly to recovery centers. In total, New York has allocated over $449 million from opioid settlements — the most of any state.
