Syracuse football fined $25K for faking injuries against Clemson

The ACC has fined Syracuse University $25,000 for players faking injuries during its 34-21 victory over Clemson, the conference announced Monday.

The fine stems from a specific incident with 9:25 remaining in the game, when two Syracuse players appeared to go down without legitimate injuries.

Though the ACC did not name the athletes involved, it stated the actions violated NCAA Rule 3-3-6-b, which deems feigned injuries “unethical and contrary to the spirit of the rules.”

After reviewing video footage, league officials and the National Coordinator of Football Officials concluded the injuries were staged in an effort to disrupt Clemson’s offensive rhythm. The ACC called the move “a clear attempt to gain an unmerited advantage.”

Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik voiced similar concerns after the game, suggesting Syracuse used injury timeouts to stall his team’s fast-paced offense.

The $25,000 penalty is the maximum allowed under ACC guidelines. The conference said the issue is now resolved.
