Cornell science drives eco-friendly Ryder Cup

This year’s Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black isn’t just a golf showdown — it’s a sustainability showcase, powered by Cornell research, according to the Cornell Chronicle.

For 25 years, Cornell’s Turfgrass Program has helped New York’s public golf courses cut pesticides, reduce emissions, and boost soil health. That work transformed Bethpage into a national model — and the first state-owned U.S. course to host the Ryder Cup.

Led by horticulture expert Frank Rossi, the team continues to monitor course conditions and promote wildlife-friendly practices like converting turf to native grassland. Their methods are now shaping golf course management worldwide.
