Tompkins County has tapped Volunteers of America Upstate New York to design and operate a planned permanent homeless shelter on Ithaca’s West End, according to The Ithaca Voice.
The Rochester-based group was selected from dozens of applicants and may also manage this winter’s temporary Code Blue shelter. That site—an antique mall on Cherry Street—will be retrofitted and open by late November, ahead of freezing temperatures.
The permanent shelter is set to open in December 2027.
