Emergency drill underway today at Thompson Hospital

If you’re near Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua this morning and see emergency vehicles and tents, don’t panic — it’s only a drill.

Starting at 9 a.m., UR Medicine Thompson Health is hosting a large-scale emergency preparedness exercise focused on responding to a chemical exposure incident. The drill includes participation from Ontario County Public Health, UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health, United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, and the Canandaigua Fire Department.

Officials say the goal is to test how quickly the region can respond, access antidotes, and carry out decontamination procedures.

The drill is centered near the Emergency Department at 350 Parrish Street, where residents may notice a visible tent and emergency response vehicles. Despite the activity, regular hospital operations will continue as normal.

Organizers say the exercise is part of a broader effort to strengthen community safety through planning, training, and coordination.
