A New Jersey man is facing multiple charges after troopers found him unresponsive in his vehicle in an active Thruway work zone and later determined he was intoxicated.
Ramiro Efrain Tarcoguaman, 27, was arrested around 11:19 p.m. on September 5 in the town of Pelham, according to New York State Police assigned to Troop T.
Troopers responded to a report of an unresponsive male in a 2013 Chevrolet stopped in the center lane of the northbound Thruway. The vehicle was in an active construction zone, and troopers had to break a rear window to wake Tarcoguaman.
Police say he briefly put the car in drive and nearly struck a trooper before stopping again about 200 feet away. He showed clear signs of impairment, and a roadside breath test registered more than twice the legal limit.
At the New Rochelle barracks, a second breath sample showed a BAC of 0.19%.
Tarcoguaman was charged with aggravated DWI (BAC .18% or higher), first-offense DWI, and multiple vehicle and traffic violations including failure to obey police, no license, and failure to avoid colliding with an emergency vehicle.
He was released with appearance tickets and is scheduled to return to Pelham Town Court on September 22.
