Wolcott woman charged in SNAP fraud case

A 28-year-old woman from Wolcott is facing charges after investigators say she failed to report income while receiving public assistance.

Bianca L. Mumford was arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office following a welfare fraud investigation involving the Department of Social Services.

Officials say Mumford was receiving SNAP benefits when she submitted a recertification form without disclosing that she had a job. As a result, she allegedly received $819 in benefits she wasn’t eligible for.

She’s charged with offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, welfare fraud in the fifth degree, and petit larceny.

Mumford was released with an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Lyons Town Court at a later date.
