Trent Grisham broke the game open with a grand slam as the New York Yankees rolled to a 10-2 victory over the White Sox on Friday night in Chicago, extending their win streak to a season-high six games and pulling within three games of first place in the American League East.
After squandering early chances, the Yankees cashed in during the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, Grisham turned on a pitch and launched his 28th home run of the season to right field, giving New York a commanding 5-0 lead. Anthony Volpe added insurance with a two-run homer in the seventh, his 19th of the season. Volpe finished 2-for-4 with three RBI. Ben Rice and Austin Wells each chipped in run-scoring singles as well.
Carlos Rodón, making his first start against his former team on the South Side, turned in a steady outing. The left-hander allowed one earned run across six innings, striking out five and working out of multiple jams to earn the win. The bullpen combination of Fernando Cruz, Tim Hill, and Camilo Doval secured the final nine outs while yielding just one run.
