CDC Director Susan Monarez is out after less than a month, and at least three top agency officials have also resigned, according to the Associated Press.
Health and Human Services didn’t say why Monarez stepped down, but internal emails cited budget cuts, political interference, and limits on CDC communication. Departing leaders warned that vaccine misinformation and the “weaponization of public health” under the Trump administration are damaging the agency.
Monarez, confirmed in July, is now the shortest-serving director in CDC history. Her departure follows a deadly shooting near CDC headquarters and comes amid deep staff cuts and major policy shifts led by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
