Police say man faked dog theft in Bath

Police arrested a man after responding to a reported burglary and dog theft on Chestnut Street in Bath.

Joshua Morey, 32, called 911 on August 24 around 6:24 p.m. to report a forced entry and stolen dog. But after investigating, officers say the story was made up.

According to Bath Police, there was no break-in and the dog hadn’t been stolen—it had just been moved by Morey himself. Officers say the report was completely fabricated.

Morey now faces two Class A misdemeanor charges: one for falsely reporting an incident and another for making a punishable false written statement.

He was processed and released with an appearance ticket. A court date in Bath Village Court is pending.
