New playground brings fresh energy to Skoi-Yase Primary

Kids at Skoi-Yase Primary School will get more than just fresh air when they head outside this fall — they’ll be climbing, sliding, and swinging on a brand-new playground.

Waterloo Central School District will officially open the new play space with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Skoi-Yase Primary School, 65 Fayette St. The event will feature Superintendent Sarah Cupelli, Principal Jon Roberts, and one lucky student selected at random to help cut the ribbon.

The new playground is part of the district’s ongoing capital project and was built with support from the Skoi-Yase Parent Teacher Group. The space includes two new swing sets, jungle gyms, a climbing wall, slide, and kid-safe turf — all decked out in Waterloo’s orange and black colors.

District officials say the upgraded playground gives students a fun, safe space to stay active and build friendships. Photo opportunities will be available during and after the ceremony, with students expected to be among the first to try out the new equipment.

The district spans 85 square miles and serves families in Waterloo and parts of Fayette, Tyre, Junius, Phelps, Seneca Falls, and Geneva. Skoi-Yase is one of four schools in the district, which focuses on personalizing education and putting kids first every day.
