Bills bring in three kickers for workouts as Tyler Bass’ status remains uncertain

The Buffalo Bills are weighing backup plans at kicker as concerns grow over Tyler Bass’ availability for the season opener.

Bass, sidelined much of training camp with a pelvic injury, appeared on track after hitting three of four field goals and two extra points in the preseason finale against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on August 23.

But on Thursday, NFL Insider Jordan Shultz reported that the team brought in veteran kickers Eddy Piñeiro, Greg Joseph, and Zane Gonzalez for workouts, raising questions about Bass’ availability.

Piñeiro, who turns 30 in September, spent the past three seasons with the Carolina Panthers and owns an 88.1% career field goal rate, including 11 makes from beyond 50 yards.

Joseph, 31, appeared in 51 straight games for the Minnesota Vikings before splitting 2024 among three teams, posting an 82.3% career mark.

Gonzalez, 30, has made 80% of his kicks over 69 career games but has struggled with injuries in recent years.

With second-year running back Ray Davis listed only as an emergency option, the Bills may need one of the veterans if Bass can’t go on September 7 when Buffalo opens its season on Sunday Night Football against the Baltimore Ravens.
