Ithaca forms commission to reform city government

Ithaca will launch a new charter commission this fall to tackle election reform and clarify city leadership roles, according to The Ithaca Voice.

Mayor Robert Cantelmo says the group—made up of residents, civic leaders, and legal experts—will propose updates to modernize the city’s charter, explore ranked-choice voting, and improve accountability. Recommendations are due next year.

The move follows Ithaca’s 2024 shift to a city manager-led government structure.
