Bath police charge man after drug possession in village park

A Bath man is facing a misdemeanor drug charge after police say he was found with methamphetamine in Pulteney Square Park.

Police said they responded around 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 8 after a 911 caller reported a man possibly smoking drugs in the park. Officers located 37-year-old James F. Blankenship, who matched the description provided by the caller.

An investigation determined Blankenship had a quantity of methamphetamine and a burnt glass smoking device commonly used for the drug, according to police. He was taken into custody, processed at the Bath Police Department, and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor.

Blankenship was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Bath Village Court at a later date.
