A dramatic nighttime rescue unfolded Friday after a man plunged into a silo at a long-abandoned cement plant in Catskill, according to the Times Union.
Crews responded just after 10:30 p.m. to the former Lehigh Cement Company site, where the man had fallen roughly 120 feet down a narrow shaft. He was eventually located and, despite the height, had only minor injuries. Using a specialized rope system, a rescuer descended, secured the man in a harness, and brought him to safety. He was then airlifted to Albany Medical Center.
The site, closed since 1982, has become a magnet for urban explorers. Authorities have not said why the man was there or how he fell.
