Bath police arrest two after drug-related traffic stop

A routine traffic stop in Bath on July 27 led to the arrest of two people on drug-related charges after officers spotted suspected paraphernalia inside a vehicle.

At around 2:39 p.m., officers with the Village of Bath Police Department stopped a vehicle on West Washington Street for improper turn signal use. Police identified the occupants as 55-year-old Gordon Clayson and 60-year-old Julia Rosekrans, both of Bath.

During the stop, officers interviewed the pair and observed drug-related items inside the vehicle. A search of Rosekrans led to the discovery of methamphetamine, and she was taken into custody for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor.

Officers also suspected Clayson of operating the vehicle while impaired by drugs. After field sobriety testing, he was arrested and charged with misdemeanor driving while ability impaired by drugs and a traffic violation for improper signaling.

Both individuals were released on appearance tickets. Their cases will be heard in Bath Village Court at a later date, as the charges do not qualify for bail under current New York State law.

The Bath Police Department was assisted by New York State Police during the investigation.
