A resolution seeking the removal of Binghamton Police Chief Joseph Zikuski was discussed at a city council work session, according to WICZ. The resolution, introduced by former council member Olamni Porter, follows a July 18 incident involving Zikuski’s girlfriend, who was caught on video assaulting two teens.
Councilwoman Rebecca Rathmell clarified that the council lacks authority to remove Zikuski but confirmed an investigation is underway. The city has hired the former state Ethics Commission director to determine if misconduct occurred.
Any disciplinary action would be decided by the mayor. If wrongdoing is confirmed, council members say they expect swift consequences.
