A man was killed and two others were injured during two separate shootings in Auburn less than four hours apart, prompting arrests in both cases and a crash involving a responding state trooper.
The first shooting occurred around 9:40 p.m. on July 26, when police monitoring a block party near Chapman Avenue heard gunfire. Officers arrived to find a man with a gun standing over a victim who had been shot multiple times. The suspect, 35-year-old Davon Dixon, was arrested without incident and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon. The victim was taken to Auburn Community Hospital, where he died.
While responding to the Chapman Avenue scene, a New York State trooper was involved in a two-car crash at Genesee and William streets around 9:50 p.m. One person was hospitalized, though their condition was not released. Two others were treated at the scene but not transported. State Police have not commented on the crash as the investigation remains open.
The second shooting happened just before 1 a.m. on July 27, when officers responded to gunfire near State and Perrine streets. Two people sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Police arrested 35-year-old Leon Shorter at the scene and charged him with criminal possession of a weapon.
