A Wayne County man faces multiple felony charges after deputies say he manipulated his girlfriend into taking the blame for a June crash that left a motorcyclist seriously injured.
Chad Dier, 35, of Huntley Road in Marion, was arrested following an investigation into a personal injury collision that occurred on June 23 on Walworth/Marion Road. According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Dier was behind the wheel of an unregistered vehicle that struck a motorcycle, leaving its operator with significant injuries to her forearm, femur, spine, and ankle.
Dier initially told deputies that his girlfriend, Anna Parker, 38, was driving at the time of the crash. Investigators later determined Dier had been driving the vehicle while intoxicated and that Parker had provided a false statement to cover for him.
Dier now faces a slew of charges, including vehicular assault in the second degree, assault in the second degree, tampering with evidence, conspiracy in the fifth degree, providing a false written statement, driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, aggravated unlicensed operation, improper left turn, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
Parker was also arrested and charged with conspiracy in the fifth degree and providing a false statement.
Deputies say the false narrative initially delayed the investigation. But after further inquiry, they uncovered that Dier had been driving and that he was impaired at the time of the crash.
Dier was transported to the Wayne County Jail and arraigned in CAPS Court on July 14. Parker was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Marion Town Court on July 23.
