Francisco Lindor is headed back to the All-Star Game for the first time since 2019, earning his fifth career selection and his first start.
He becomes the first Mets shortstop to start the Midsummer Classic since Jose Reyes in 2007.
While Lindor’s overall numbers, a .255 average with 15 home runs, 43 RBI, and 13 steals are solid, he’s struggled lately, going just 11-for-64 since mid-June. That slump has mirrored the Mets’ broader struggles, with the team dropping 14 of 18 games entering.
Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers was the other candidate at shortstop.
Lindor was the only Mets player voted in by fans. Pete Alonso and Juan Soto finished second at their positions but could still join the roster as reserves, along with closer Edwin Díaz when selections are finalized Sunday.
