In response to a growing number of antisemitic incidents, the Ithaca Area United Jewish Community has launched a task force to support victims and promote education, according to the Ithaca Journal. The move follows violent national attacks and rising hate crime rates across New York.
The group has tracked local cases, including the reported refusal of service to a Jewish resident. They’re encouraging victims to report incidents and are planning public events to raise awareness. A May panel drew nearly 80 attendees and highlighted collaboration between Jewish and Christian leaders.
With hate crimes against Jews up 89% since 2018, the task force says local efforts must reflect a national crisis. They’re urging action from law enforcement, schools, and residents alike.
