Rep. Elise Stefanik is planning to run for New York governor, with sources saying it’s only a matter of timing, according to WSYR-TV. The Republican congresswoman leads early primary polling and is seen as the frontrunner should she enter the race.
Stefanik’s close ties to former President Trump have fueled speculation, especially after he endorsed other GOP figures for reelection, potentially clearing her path. A GrayHouse poll shows Stefanik with 44% support, far ahead of Rep. Mike Lawler and Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman.
Despite GOP gains in recent elections, analysts still rate the governor’s race as “likely Democratic,” signaling an uphill battle in the blue-leaning state.
