A long-vacant building in downtown Hornell is being transformed into the David A. Gray Discovery Center, a $3.2 million community space expected to open in 2026, according to the Hornell Evening Tribune. The center will house a childcare facility, Maker Space/STEM lab, and senior center.
The Hornell Area Family YMCA is leading the project, named after late philanthropist David Gray, a local STEM education advocate. The facility will accommodate up to 110 young children and feature hands-on STEM programming through partnerships with schools and museums.
The senior center will be operated by the Steuben County Office for the Aging. YMCA officials say the project reflects strong local support and will serve residents across generations.
