Stimulus update: Will Americans get a $5,000 DOGE check in June 2025?

No new stimulus checks confirmed for June 2025

As of June 2025, the federal government has not approved any new stimulus checks. While social media continues to buzz with rumors of a $5,000 DOGE Dividend, no official legislation or payment plan has been enacted.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) confirmed that no fourth round of stimulus payments has been authorized by Congress. The IRS also warned Americans to remain cautious of scams and misinformation related to federal payments.

What is the DOGE Dividend stimulus check?

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is a Trump-era initiative aimed at cutting federal waste and redistributing savings. The idea of a $5,000 stimulus check—funded by 20% of DOGE-identified savings—was first floated by investor James Fishback and publicly endorsed by President Donald Trump at a February 2025 summit.

Under the proposal:

  • 20% of DOGE’s $2 trillion targeted savings would be refunded to taxpayers.
  • Each eligible household would receive up to $5,000.
  • The remaining savings would go toward reducing the national debt.

Unlike COVID-era stimulus checks, DOGE dividends would only go to households that pay more in taxes than they receive in benefits—excluding low-income Americans who don’t pay net federal taxes.

Elon Musk’s exit shakes up the DOGE plan

The future of the DOGE Dividend became uncertain after Elon Musk, former head of DOGE, left the administration in May. Musk criticized Trump’s broader spending bill and called the plan fiscally irresponsible.

Despite Musk’s departure, DOGE continues to operate under new leadership, claiming $180 billion in savings to date. However, only $70 billion of those savings have been publicly itemized, leading to skepticism about the program’s transparency and effectiveness.

Trump, Fishback still back the idea—Congress does not

President Trump and James Fishback continue to promote the DOGE check, but no bill has passed through Congress to authorize payments. Experts like Elaine Kamarck of the Brookings Institution emphasize that no stimulus check can be issued without congressional approval.

Fishback remains optimistic. In a recent interview, he said, “I really do believe it will happen,” citing recent meetings with lawmakers. However, House Speaker Mike Johnson warned that reducing the $36 trillion national debt takes priority over issuing more direct payments.

Can you still claim past stimulus checks?

The deadline to claim the third stimulus check (up to $1,400) via the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit passed on April 15, 2025. Taxpayers who missed that deadline can no longer claim the payment.

There are no new federal programs to distribute direct checks as of now. Any unclaimed funds from previous stimulus rounds have reverted back to the U.S. Treasury.

Watch for scams as misinformation spreads

With uncertainty swirling, fraud attempts and fake websites promising stimulus payments have surged. The IRS urges taxpayers to use only official sources—such as irs.gov—and to ignore any claims that suggest new payments are currently being issued.

What about state-level payments?

Although the federal government has not issued new stimulus checks, states like California, New York, and Colorado have introduced their own financial aid programs to assist residents facing high costs of living.

Bottom line: No fourth check (yet)

Despite ongoing public interest and speculation, no $5,000 stimulus or DOGE Dividend will be issued in June 2025 without a formal act of Congress. While supporters continue to push the proposal, and DOGE claims to have saved billions, the lack of legislation and waning political support mean Americans shouldn’t expect new stimulus money anytime soon.
