The New York Mets (36-22) delivered a complete performance on Saturday afternoon at Citi Field, cruising past the Colorado Rockies (9-49), 8-2, behind Kodai Senga’s strong start and a powerful day at the plate.
After allowing a rare first-inning home run on his signature ghost fork, Senga quickly settled in, retiring 17 straight at one point. He finished with 6.1 innings pitched, giving up just two runs on two hits while striking out seven. The Mets’ ace has now gone 28 consecutive starts without allowing more than three earned runs. Jose Buttó and Chris Devenski combined for the final eight outs, keeping the Rockies quiet with just one hit and two walks.
The offense backed Senga early. Brett Baty came through with a three-run triple in the first, and Tyrone Taylor followed with an RBI single to make it 4-1. In the fourth, Brandon Nimmo and Juan Soto launched back-to-back home runs, the team’s first such combo this season. Jeff McNeil added a solo shot in the eighth to cap the scoring.
Francisco Lindor continued his hot streak, reaching base four times with two hits and two walks. Every Mets starter recorded a hit as the lineup collected 11 total and worked five walks.
The Mets wrap up their three-game set with the Rockies on Sunday at 1:40 p.m. Clay Holmes gets the ball against Colorado lefty Carson Palmquist.
