A man who called 911 for help is now facing charges for allegedly taking a neighbor’s car during the emergency.
Corey A. Gamlen, 36, of Auburn, was arrested on May 20 at Kenyon Landing in the Town of Brutus and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, a misdemeanor.
According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a reported vehicle larceny after Gamlen called 911 for a medical emergency. When an ambulance didn’t arrive right away, Gamlen allegedly took his neighbor’s keys, drove their vehicle to the scene, and placed the patient in the back seat. Before he could leave for the hospital, the owner regained possession of the vehicle and emergency services arrived.
Gamlen was issued an appearance ticket to appear in Brutus Town Court on May 27 at 7 p.m.
