The New York Yankees’ (31-20) bats came alive in a big way on Saturday afternoon at Coors Field, delivering a dominant 13-1 win over the Colorado Rockies (9-43) behind a relentless offensive outburst and another gem from Max Fried.
Aaron Judge got things rolling early, launching his second home run in as many days with a solo shot to right in the first inning. But the real damage came in the fifth when the Yankees sent 14 batters to the plate and exploded for 10 runs, their second double-digit inning this season. Austin Wells and Oswald Peraza sparked the rally, and the Yankees capitalized on a Rockies error, key hits from Paul Goldschmidt, Anthony Volpe, and Trent Grisham, and a two-run double from Wells to break the game wide open.
Every starter recorded at least one hit in the 21-hit onslaught. Goldschmidt, Bellinger, Volpe, and DJ LeMahieu each collected three hits.
Max Fried made sure the offensive eruption didn’t go to waste. The lefty was in command all afternoon, allowing just one run on six hits across 7.1 innings while striking out seven. He also picked off two runners to continue his league-leading pace in that category and lowered his ERA to a sparkling 1.29.
Ian Hamilton finished things off with 1.2 scoreless innings of relief to seal the victory.
The series wraps up on Sunday at 3:10 p.m., with right-hander Will Warren set to face Colorado’s Antonio Senzatela.
