Geneva schools launch youth-led redesign of education

A bold initiative to reshape education from the student’s perspective is underway in Geneva, where a new Changemaker Hub is bringing together young people, educators, and community leaders to rethink how schools serve the next generation.

On May 5, Geneva City Schools and national nonprofit World Savvy will host the inaugural Changemaker Hub at The Dove Block Project. The full-day event aims to spark student-driven ideas and forge new connections that challenge outdated approaches to teaching and learning.

The event is part of a wider partnership between Geneva Schools and World Savvy focused on building a community-developed “Profile of a Graduate.” The effort intends to redefine what student success looks like and ensure all learners are prepared for a rapidly changing world.

“By developing a community-driven Profile of a Graduate and creating spaces for collaboration, we’re redefining success for every learner—and preparing students for lives of consequence in a changing world,” said Bo Wright, superintendent of the Geneva City School District.

Participants will work across age groups and roles—students, teachers, administrators, and community members—to envision education systems that better reflect diverse experiences and goals. The Hub will emphasize listening to youth voices, identifying gaps in the current system, and generating concrete ideas for change.

“Today represents an opportunity to set aside time to seek student input about what they want from their education experience,” said Hamse Warfa, CEO of World Savvy. “In the face of complex community and global challenges, it is essential that we empower our young people to lead.”

The event also serves as a launchpad for implementing new practices aligned with Geneva’s evolving Profile of a Graduate. Organizers hope attendees leave not only with ideas, but with the motivation and tools to take action in their schools.

World Savvy has worked since 2002 to help K-12 schools build inclusive, student-centered, and future-ready learning environments. Through its Changemaker Hubs and broader partnerships, the organization fosters leadership, empathy, and global competence in young learners.
