Senator Pam Helming joined survivors, advocates, and lawmakers this week to spotlight bipartisan support for breast cancer patients and families.
The gathering took place at the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester’s annual Legislative Reception, where Helming emphasized how unity across party lines is key to advancing care and policy.
“Cancer transcends politics,” Helming said. “I was proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with colleagues from both sides of the aisle to support the Coalition’s critical advocacy work.”
The evening also honored longtime survivor and advocate Phyllis Connelly, affectionately known as the “Queen Mum,” for more than 20 years of service to the cause.
She received a New York State Senate Proclamation recognizing her lifetime of leadership. Officials from both major parties and all levels of government joined in the celebration.
Helming called Connelly’s contributions “remarkable” and praised her as a driving force in the movement.
