Auburn offers retirement incentives to help cut $2.8M deficit

Facing a $2.8 million budget shortfall, the city of Auburn is offering retirement incentives to eligible employees in hopes of reducing salary costs, according to city officials.

Approved by the City Council, the plan offers lump-sum payments or health insurance credits to employees who retire by May 17 or July 18, with higher payouts for earlier notice.

More than 30 employees qualify, though savings will vary depending on tenure and benefits. Officials hope the move will help balance the $50.8 million proposed budget.
