Auburn residents will have a chance to safely dispose of unwanted medications during a drive-thru drug takeback event at the Fingerlakes Mall on Saturday, April 26.
The event, part of the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the east side parking lot of the mall, at 1579 Clark Street Road—the former location of JC Penney.
Organized by the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, the initiative aims to reduce the risks of medication misuse and environmental contamination by offering a secure way to discard unneeded prescription drugs.
Accepted items include prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, prescription patches, pet medications, samples, ointments, and vitamins. There is no cost to participate, and all items collected will be properly destroyed. However, the event will not accept needles or sharps.
The Sheriff’s Office encourages residents to take advantage of the opportunity to clean out their medicine cabinets and help protect the community.
