Cornell women’s lacrosse fell to No. 16 Penn, 18-10, on Saturday afternoon at Franklin Field as the Quakers used a dominant second-quarter surge to break a 2-2 tie and pull away. The Big Red dropped to 9-6 overall and 3-3 in Ivy League play.
Kylie Gelabert paced Cornell with a five-point outing (1G, 4A), while Caitlin Slaminko added a goal and two assists. Josie Vogel and Holly Newman each netted two goals, and Ellie Bergin led the team with six draw controls. Despite the offensive push, the Big Red struggled to slow down Penn’s attack.
Penn senior Anna Brandt delivered a career performance with nine goals, tying the school’s single-game record. Goalie Orly Sedransk anchored the defense with 13 saves, and the Quakers controlled possession with a 20-11 draw advantage. Catherine Berkery contributed three goals, and Erika Chung tallied five points.
Cornell briefly cut the deficit to 8-5 early in the second quarter but couldn’t contain Penn’s eight-goal run. The Big Red fought back late with a 5-0 stretch but ran out of time.
