Two arrested in Farmington traffic stop involving drugs, weapon, and children

A traffic stop in Farmington led to the arrest of two individuals early Tuesday morning on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including drug possession, weapon possession, and endangering the welfare of children.

Deputies with the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office arrested Vanessa V. Black, 39, of Clifton Springs, and Chaunsey M. Gilbert, 42, of Rochester, after stopping a vehicle on County Road 8 at 12:41 a.m. for several traffic violations.

According to investigators, Black was found to be driving while impaired by drugs and in possession of both a controlled substance and a weapon. She faces multiple charges, including three counts of Leandra’s Law DWI, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.

Gilbert, the front-seat passenger, was also arrested for criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of drug possession, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Deputies said both individuals had controlled substances and a weapon in the vehicle, which also contained three children under the age of ten.

Ontario County Child Protective Services responded and took custody of the children. Black was evaluated by a certified drug recognition expert, who confirmed impairment. She also provided a blood sample for toxicology testing.

Both suspects were transported to the Ontario County Jail pending centralized arraignment.
