A fire tore through a home in the Town of Brutus early Friday morning, injuring two people and leaving the structure a total loss.
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office said the blaze broke out around 6:41 a.m. at 103 Briarwood Drive. Two residents were inside the home when the fire began. Both were able to escape but sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Upstate University Hospital for treatment.
Investigators are still working to determine what caused the fire. The Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation alongside the Auburn Fire Department’s Fire Investigations Unit, New York State Fire Investigators, and a K9 team. Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Weedsport, Jordan, Sennett, and Elbridge fire departments, as well as county emergency services and ambulances from Jordan and Auburn.
