Cornell men’s lacrosse used a strong defensive finish and timely scoring to earn a 13-9 road win over Brown on Saturday at Stevenson-Pincince Field. The Big Red improved to 9-1 overall and remained unbeaten in Ivy League play at 4-0.
Senior CJ Kirst led the way offensively with four goals and an assist, including the go-ahead goal with just over eight minutes to play. His five-point effort moved him into a tie for second on Cornell’s all-time scoring list with 296 career points. His four goals also placed him third all-time in NCAA history with 214.
The Big Red defense clamped down in the final stretch, holding Brown to just one goal in the last 23 minutes. Goalie Wyatt Knust tallied 12 saves, while defenders Brendan Staub and Jayson Singer each forced two turnovers. Jack Cascadden had a strong day at the faceoff X, winning 15-of-22 and scoring once.
Cornell and Brown traded goals early, with the Bears tying the game multiple times and briefly taking a 6-5 lead before the Big Red answered with a three-goal run. Brown tied it again at 9-9, but Cornell responded and pulled away late.
Next up, Cornell faces Syracuse at Mitchel Field on April 12 at 4 p.m.
