A Walworth man and his wife were arrested in Manchester on Monday following a complaint about a possibly intoxicated driver, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say Matthew J. Johnson, 59, was taken into custody after nearly causing a head-on collision with a marked police vehicle while making an unsafe pass on State Route 21 near State Route 96. During the roadside investigation, deputies determined Johnson was intoxicated and had violated multiple traffic laws.

Johnson was also charged with obstructing governmental administration after allegedly resisting arrest and refusing to comply with lawful orders. He was transported to the Ontario County Jail and appeared for a centralized arraignment.

His wife, Elaine R. Cramer, 51, was also arrested during the incident. She was issued an appearance ticket and released to a third party. Both are scheduled to appear in Manchester Town Court at a later date.
