A Syracuse man was arrested twice within hours in Cayuga County after being caught driving without a license and using stolen license plates, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies stopped Abdul H. Alhariri around 4:02 a.m. on March 7 on E. Main Street in the Village of Cato while he was driving a blue Dodge Charger. Officers discovered the vehicle had switched plates, and Alhariri did not have a valid New York State driver’s license. He was issued tickets for operating an unregistered motor vehicle and aggravated unlicensed operation. Authorities removed the improper license plate, and the vehicle was towed to a private residence in Wayne County at the owner’s request.
Just over two hours later, at 6:17 a.m., deputies again spotted the same Dodge Charger on E. Main Street—this time with a New York commercial license plate affixed to the rear. Upon stopping the vehicle, they determined that the plate had been stolen in Wayne County.
Alhariri was issued additional traffic tickets for the same violations and was also charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree. His vehicle was towed from the scene and taken to an impound yard.
He is scheduled to appear in Cato Town Court on March 17 at 6:00 p.m. for arraignment.
