NY ag commissioner kicks off maple season in Wayne County

New York Agriculture Commissioner Richard Ball visited Shadow Hill Maple Farm in Ontario to mark the first maple tapping of the season. He encouraged residents to participate in Maple Weekends on March 22-23 and March 29-30, where farms will offer tours, tastings, and demonstrations.

Shadow Hill is part of the NYS Grown & Certified program, which promotes farms with high food safety and environmental standards. New York ranks second in U.S. maple production, producing 846,000 gallons in 2024, and has the country’s largest supply of tappable maple trees.

The event highlights the state’s thriving maple industry and its commitment to sustainable agriculture.
