Democrats push for state ‘Office of Resilience’

New York lawmakers have proposed creating an Office of Resilience to streamline the state’s response to climate disasters like floods, storms, and wildfires. The office, led by a chief resilience officer, would coordinate efforts across agencies and track progress on climate adaptation goals.

Supporters argue the office would save money by improving disaster preparedness, especially as federal funding shrinks under recent cuts to weather services.

With Gov. Kathy Hochul signaling support, the bill could follow similar initiatives in other states.
