If you receive Social Security benefits, you’ll need the SSA-1099 form (or SSA-1042S for noncitizens) for tax filing. These forms are mailed in January, but if lost or missing, replacements can be obtained online or by phone.
Beneficiaries can log in to their my Social Security account to download the form instantly. Those without internet access can request a mailed copy by calling 1-800-772-1213 and saying “1099.” Noncitizens can access their forms through SSA’s ID.me system.
Since Supplemental Security Income (SSI) isn’t taxable, recipients don’t receive an SSA-1099. Ensuring you have the correct documents now can prevent tax filing delays.
