ALDI’s plan to expand in Wayne County is officially moving forward after securing final site approval from the town of Ontario. The 20,264-square-foot store, proposed for Route 104, marks the discount grocery chain’s second location in the county, complementing its existing store in Lyons.
Part of ALDI’s ambitious $9 billion nationwide expansion effort, the Ontario store aims to provide more local residents with affordable grocery options. The Wayne County Planning Board had previously approved the site plan, and the town’s Planning Board finalized its approval following a recent meeting.
Ontario Town Supervisor Ben Aman confirmed that ALDI is now set to take the next steps in the development process. “The next steps will be that ALDI will submit building plans, and our building department will review and ensure that these plans meet state and local code,” Aman stated. He added that ALDI will soon seek bids from general contractors, with construction expected to begin in late 2025 or early 2026.
The approval marks a significant milestone in ALDI’s expansion in the Finger Lakes region. As demand for budget-friendly grocery options grows, the retailer continues to push forward with its larger goal of increasing its footprint across the country.
