Governor Kathy Hochul and Superintendent Steven G. James welcomed 176 new State Troopers to the New York State Police force during a graduation ceremony today at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center. The event marked the conclusion of the 216th session of the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy. Among the graduates are several individuals from the Finger Lakes region, who will soon begin field training.
During the ceremony, Governor Hochul expressed gratitude for the graduates’ dedication to public service, emphasizing the increasing challenges of law enforcement. “The members of the New York State Police put their lives on the line each day to keep the rest of us safe,” she said, thanking the new troopers for their perseverance.
Among those graduating is Hunter T. Argetsinger of Elmira, NY, who was recognized with the Firearms Proficiency Award after achieving a perfect score during firearms training. Argetsinger, a graduate of Corning Community College, previously served as a police officer with the Elmira Police Department and will be assigned to Troop E, which covers parts of the Finger Lakes.
Additionally, several other new troopers from the Finger Lakes area include:
- James Brownell of Geneva, NY
- Kaitlyn Jolly of Waterloo, NY
- Joel Kraft of Waterloo, NY
- Ryan Fernaays of Williamson, NY
- Jillian Galanti of Webster, NY
- Alejandro Thaureaux of Webster, NY
The new troopers will report for field duty on February 7 or 10, depending on their platoons, and will undergo a 10-week field-training program under the supervision of senior Field Training Officers.
Superintendent James praised the graduates for their hard work over the past six months of rigorous physical training and coursework. He underscored the importance of professionalism and pride, principles that have guided the New York State Police for over a century.
As these new officers prepare to serve their communities, they join an elite force of over 5,000 sworn members tasked with safeguarding the residents of New York.
