The Trump administration has agreed to limit access for staffers from Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to Treasury’s payment systems, according to NBC News.
This comes after a lawsuit alleged that granting such access violated privacy laws. A proposed order restricts access to two government employees with read-only permissions.
Critics, including Sen. Patty Murray, argue that Musk, as an unelected official, wields disproportionate power, potentially endangering sensitive data.
Musk defends DOGE as a necessary effort to cut waste, while Democrats push for stronger oversight. A judge must still approve the restrictions.
