Naples bus driver fired after arrest for weapon on school bus

The bus driver who purchased a .22-caliber rifle and placed it under his seat while working for the Naples Central School District has been fired.

David L. Ferry, 57, was fired after being charged with criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds. State police say Ferry had purchased a .22-caliber rifle and placed it under his seat while driving a school bus with 12 students on board.

Authorities stopped the bus in Gorham after receiving a complaint. The rifle was found in its original packaging without ammunition. Police confirmed there was no intent of violence or credible threats to the school or students.

Ferry has been issued court appearance tickets for February 18.
