Gov. Hochul seeks workers compensation overhaul

Gov. Kathy Hochul is pushing for reforms to New York’s workers compensation system, aiming to streamline access to care and expand the pool of authorized providers, according to Spectrum News 1.

Currently, just 10% of providers participate due to complicated authorization processes, says Dr. James Tacci of the Workers Compensation Board. This causes frustration for injured workers whose regular doctors often refuse claims.

Workers’ Compensation Board Chair Clarissa Rodriguez outlined plans to automatically authorize licensed providers and raise reimbursement rates tied to Medicare standards.

However, business leaders warn that insurance costs may rise, impacting small businesses.
